Monster High live-action: how I'd style the ghouls. Part II: Lagoona, Cleo, Ghoulia

As promised, this post is the follow-up of the first part I did styling the three main ghouls. Because it's a second part I don't think we need much introduction, so let's just dive into it!

LAGOONA BLUE

I have some bias towards Lagoona, as she comes closest to my dream wardrobe idea and I relate a lot to sea aesthetics. The inspiration for her just kept on flowing.

Light-weight and flowing fabrics that gives her a constant feeling of being suspended in water but also keeping her style on the casual and effortless side. Also sporty looks would be common in her as she has been traditionally the 'sporty token' in the main group. I'd always add a bit of a strap from a bikini top peeking, like she always has her swimsuit on ready for a swim. But I like giving them a twist, and of course I wouldn't keep Lagoona just like this...

It's a very popular headcanon to associate Lagoona with gyaru subcultures, and I couldn't agree more. I'm no expert on j-fashion so I'll refrain from specifics as I don't wanna mess up, so let's just say a very beachy, summery gyaru vibe fits her perfectly.

I think Lagoona would love to always have her nails done with cute and sea related motifs. Also tons and tons of jewelry made of natural pieces such as seashells she collected herself.

Hair department - I think she's an easy choice. Keeping her staple blonde with her iconic blue highlights, it's a really strong look that makes u immediately think of her. I'd also mix for some cute styles a bit of pink too or lilacs, referencing her G3 coloring. For hairstyles I'd give her messy, casual beach waves (or 'mermaid waves') with lots of accesories tangled in her hair like starfish clips or shells. Also lots of tiny braids.

Chunky hairclips to keep on the gyaru theme too!

My only "issue" styling lagoona is though the lack of 'darker' motifs, as of now she results in a very colorful character that doesn't exactly scream monster. For maybe more toned down and fancier looks I'd give her darker palettes or more muted colours (keeping blue tones) for that dark siren aesthetic. Keeping the flowing fabrics to make her look just like in water.

Just a bit more of random ideas...

I think these pants would really suit her.

And lastly for shoes. Either tennis to keep the sporty motifs, or casual heels/flip flops. I'd give her lots of open shoes to give her easier access to her feet, same for the more light fabrics. Basically outfits that can make it an easy task to just lift them (like long skirts or pants) or not cover much of her skin so she can moisturize herself at all times, given she's a sea creature that needs frequent moisturizing.

Here for more Lagoona ideas.

CLEO DE NILE

Now, I'm pretty excited for Cleo. Translating her egyptian royal style to irl fashion doesn't sound like an easy task, but I'm happy with how she turned out for me.

Most of egyptian-esque stuff I seem to found online is from high couture runways, but I'm not bothered by that honestly. Cleo HAS to give off expensive, of course the wardrobe of an undead egyptian princess is not gonna be simple. Cleo loves gold, silks, exquisite fabrics that wraps her perfect figure and jewels of immeasurable value. Now, let me get experimental on her.

They could just keep it to a more loose egyptian inspiration mixed with high couture. But for a super extra moment, there's something that tells me Cleo could fit a 20s fashion, an art deco moment... and please, trust me on this.

This may be just personal bias, but I think it can make a very interesting contrast. Art deco favors extra elements, maximalism, gold and jewels, they even took a lot of inspiration from egyptian elements.

For hair they can also take the more obvious approach and give her just a black, pin straight hair, either long or a bob. But I love taking a more experimenting route, so I present you the idea of a bald or a shaved Cleo. It could lead to very iconic looks, something like this...

And of course looks with hair too. After all egyptians shaved regularly their heads and used tons of wigs, which I think it's something very appropiate for Cleo. She'd have an endless wig collection.
I also think Cleo having 'human hair' gives her a more human feel, and being bald or at the very least completely shaved it's much more appropiate for a mummy anyways.

This with a headscarf like her Fearidiscent G3 doll... would make a very good look...

And don't think I forgot about her bandages.

For make up, it's an obvious choice too.

For jewelry, again, Cleo loves everything in gold with tons and tons of jewels. I think she also suits lots of piercings and even teeth jewelry. Snakes, beetles and other animal and egyptian related motifs like the Eye of Horus are an obvious must.

Shoes, shoes, shoes...

And lastly, an effect I'd give her would be spraying her skin with gold shimmer so she really looks like she's coated in fine gold. Make her look like a jewel herself.

More here!

GHOULIA YELPS

Last girl for today, but not in the series. Even though Ghoulia's style seems 'simple', it was the most difficult for me as of now. Thing is, I could barely find online stuff that matched her vintage (even a bit pin-up-esque vibe). So we're taking a more emo/scene approach for her today.

Ghoulia's motifs of course would be way edgier. Bloody stuff with organs and bones, perhaps I'm doing too much for a movie that would probably be PG-13, heh. But I think a more 'gore-y' tone could suit her very well... to give her something more going on, I think Ghoulia suits wearing a lot of geek shirts. Either from shows she enjoys (please, give her a Deadfast shirt!) or from bands, videogames... or just with those popular internet quotes. I don't know why but Ghoulia lowkey gives me metalhead vibes, more than simple 'emo'. Though sure she can be a middle point between those two, right?

For hair I'd sure keep her blue tones. I love her original mix of a pastel blue with contrast streaks of a bit darker blue.

For a bit of a more emo edge, she could have some raccoon tails. Also I'd keep it on the more medium length or even short, I like her super long hair but being realistic she doesn't seem like the type of girl who'd take a lot of care for her hair to keep it super long and neat.

Red streaks - or even her lower layers in red could give some fun contrast!

Of course I'd never forget her iconic glasses. There's tons of styles and shapes that can suit her.

And never forget her iconic cherry motifs.

I'm also trying to keep her colour palette very limited. Reds, blues, grays and blacks. I don't like when they mix up too much stuff, I could perhaps tolerate bits of green because they go well. But please, never pink!

And that's it pretty much for today. I ended up a bit more satisfied with Ghoulia (see here for more ideas), and expect the third part of this series to be including Spectra, Abbey and Toralei! I don't know how many parts I'll do as I'm not gonna include every single character and I don't wanna make this series too long, but there's a bit more for sure to expand in. See you!
